Description: The Financial Aid Counselorís duties include counseling and advising students and parents on the various financial aid programs, assisting with the administration of one or more federal, state or institutional aid programs, evaluating financial aid applications in order to determine student eligibility for various aid programs, collecting data and keeping accurate records.
  • Provide counseling to students concerning the financial aid programs provided through the Financial Aid Office specializing in federal and state grants
  • Obtain and evaluate confidential information from the student and family, advise on eligibility and application process.
  • Provide accurate information regarding a wide range of topics relating to student financial aid
  • Responsible for assisting with an estimated package generated (i.e.: Net Price Calculator)
  • Process Federal, state, institutional financial aid, including:
    • Completion of federal financial aid forms (FAFSA)
    • Verification of studentsí financial aid application
    • Awarding and packing of financial aid
  • Transcript Evaluation of Undergraduate Studies for loan limits on grade level and the Minnesota State Grant for Total Units not exceeding the 4-year equivalent rule.
  • Assists with National Board applications
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications:
  • 3+ years experience in college or university student financial aid administration.
  • Associate's degree (A. A.) in Business, Guidance or Counseling, Public Administration, Communications or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Notary Public, desired
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple competing priorities
  • Strong customer service skills, a must
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the general public   
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word and Excel
