Network/System Administrator

Description:Responsible for performing activities necessary for managing and operating the University’s computer infrastructure including the data center hardware and software, and the wired and wireless networks. Also responsible for network security, monitoring and tuning system performance. Develops infrastructure standards, documentation, security, and authorization procedures necessary to support and implement the Information Technology Department’s strategic goals.

Duties:• Configures network hardware
• Collects and analyzes network performance data
• Administers the wireless network
• Configures, monitors and maintains the firewall
• Collects and analyzes network security logs, and takes appropriate actions
• Supervises the implementation and completion of annual security audits and implements changes as appropriate
• Configures, monitors and maintains anti-virus and patch management servers
• Administers the network security profiles
• Provides secondary-level support of Mediasite lecture capture technology and ShorTel phone system
• Responsible for operations of the data center
• Installs, configures and troubleshoots data center hardware and software
• Administers the GroupWise e-mail system, spam filtering and archiving software
• Manages Novell file and print servers
• Administers Citrix server farm
• Administers VMWare server farm
• Performs hardware and software upgrades and maintenance on servers as needed
• Assists DBA with back up and recovery operations, and manages tape rotation
• Responsible for Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity of the data center
• Selects vendors, negotiates licensing agreements, and monitors performance
• Provides secondary-level support to employees and students

1. Required – An associate’s degree from a two-year technical program.
2. Desired – A bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.

1. Three to five years of experience in the development and support of LAN/WAN networks and data center hardware and software
2. Experience with Novell Open Enterprise Server, Cisco networks, Citrix Xenapp and VMware required
3. Knowledge of best practices as they relate to datacenter and network management and security are a must
4. Experience with Windows 2000/2003/2008 servers including hardware and software installations, experience with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and Active Directory; Linux or other platforms is a plus
5. Experience with Trapeze Wireless products desired
6. Experience with Nimble, Drobo and NetApp storage desired

Licensure and/or Certification
1. Certified Novell Administrator required
2. Certified Novell Engineer desired
3. MCSE –(Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert) certification desired

Other required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Proficient with the MS Office Suite, Visio and MS project
2. Familiar with network performance monitoring tools
3. Applied knowledge in database backup and recovery procedures and software tools
4. Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills
5. Strong verbal and written communications skills
